We will never know where Tiger Woods would have finished on the Masters leaderboard in 2023 had he not withdrawn from the competition. The 48-year-old made the cut for the rain-delayed final round, but withdrew from the competition due to plantar fasciitis and didn’t play for the rest of the year. Even though the five-time Masters champion is a 100-1 longshot heading into the Masters 2024, fans are still hoping for him to make a strong showing at Augusta National Golf Course starting on Thursday. SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
McClure’s model predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure’s best bets returned nearly $1,000.
The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm’s second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.
In addition, McClure’s best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.Â

Top 2024 Masters predictionsÂ
One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Masters: Xander Schauffele, an 18-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The Southern California product ranks second on Tour in strokes gained (+1.93) and scoring average (69.0), and his recent form suggests he is close to winning the first major of his career.
Schauffele has put together an impressive six top-10 finishes through eight events in 2024, and is coming off a runner-up at the Players Championship and a fifth-place at the Valspar. He also has finished in the top 10 at three Masters, including a runner-up showing in 2019 and a third-place effort in 2021, which adds to the model being high on him to finish strong at Augusta in 2024.
The model has also examined where Tiger Woods finishes. The 15-time major champion last played competitively at the Genesis Invitational in February, when he withdrew after one round due to an illness. Reaching the finish line of a tournament has been an issue for Woods since returning from his Feb. 2021 car crash. Over the seven ensuing competitive events, he’s played all four rounds just three times, while also withdrawing three times and missing one cut.
However, no one knows Augusta quite like Woods, and while full-timers on tour have to go through the grind of weekly tournaments, Woods can focus his attention on this event. He’s shot under par in all four rounds of a single Masters tournament a record five times, while no other golfer has more than three.
